Because it’s both a beautiful and impressive island nation, Sri Lanka, which is situated just off the southeastern tip of India, is fast becoming a popular vacation destination that travelers are choosing more and more frequently. On this tropical island you’ll find sandy beaches, a tropical jungle, large ruins, and even a few arid delights.
The island itself is also home to a variety of accommodations, that are scattered throughout the entire island.
A noted beautiful tropical region that hosts 115 islands, the Seychelles is a dream come true for most travelers who seek a nice beach, sun, and a cold drink. Unfortunately, there aren’t any overwater villas in this area as of now, and there aren’t any plans at the moment to build any that we are aware of. However, there is some good news to share. Nearby, there is a plethora of overwater resorts, and those can be found in the famed Maldives.
Located just 15 miles off of the coast of Tanzania, Zanzibar is situated within the beautiful Indian Ocean. This beautiful archipelago offers clear waters to wade and snorkel in along with wide stretches of beach to walk. Here, you’ll also find a large amount of beachfront hotels. However, at least at the moment, none of these hotels feature overwater villas of any sort.
Because of this lack of overwater villas, you’ll have to travel a little further away to find your dream overwater escape.
Puerto Rico is an easy to reach tropical location that’s also a very popular choice for vacationers seeking a bit of fun in the sun, throughout the entire year, and even year after year. Because of this, there are lots of travelers who wonder if there are any overwater resorts that they can choose from. Though we really do wish we could say differently, Puerto Rico is not yet an overwater bungalow destination. Thankfully though, there are islands nearby that are.
Serving as one of the world’s most popular and famous tropical island escapes, a vacation on the island of Bali brings in the majority of tourists that empower Indonesia’s local tourism. However, once you start looking into a vacation here, you may become a bit confused on whether or not there are any overwater bungalows on-site. This is because there is a local resort, Club Bali Hai, that claims to have invented the first overwater bungalows.
With around 100 different water-villa resorts in the Maldives to choose from, you’ll find that the overwater villas here are spread out throughout the entire island nation. You’ll also note that most of the oldest resorts opened up near the main international airport. On the other hand, most of the newer resorts are a long way away, making it so that you’ll need to take a sea-plane flight that can be both time consuming and a bit expensive.
It can easily be said that the South Pacific is truly a dream come true for most vacation seekers. It is also a region that is heavily portrayed in movies, TV shows, and music videos in both the US and beyond. It used to be that only honeymooners and other romantic couples sought out this island paradise due to its distance and price, but in today’s world, more and more families are choosing the South Pacific for a family adventure.
The U.S. state of Hawaii is home to a very large amount of great accommodation options, from those that rest right on the beach to those situated a bit farther back. With that said, however, you won’t find any overwater resorts on any of the islands here. If they could be built on Hawaii’s shores, there would be dozens to choose from.
However, with this bad news does come a bit of good news.
As you began your overwater bungalow and villa resort research, you’ll notice, pretty quickly we might add, that there are dozens and dozens of overwater resorts around the entire world. This is fantastic as it allows people from various regions in the world access to a villa that isn’t too far away. If you do reside somewhere in North America, particularly speaking, the US and Canada, then you’ll notice that there aren’t any overwater resorts along the vast stretches of coastline on either coast.
A popular question we often receive is whether or not there is some type of overwater resort in Florida and the Florida Keys. Unfortunately, for at least the moment, we can’t say that there are any such options available. With that said, however, we’re happy to report that there are a few great overwater resorts in the Caribbean that are very much worth looking at, which we’ll discuss below.
But, if you’re thinking about those dreamy little huts that rest perched on stilts over a clear and delicate lagoon, then you’ll have to prepare yourself for travel that takes you far away from Florida.
