We're often asked by readers if there is some type of overwater resort in Florida and the Florida Keys. Unfortunately, we can't say that there are any such options. However, we're happy to report that there are a few great overwater resorts in the Caribbean that are worth looking at, which we'll discuss below.
If you are thinking about those dreamy little huts that sit perched on stilts over a clear and delicate lagoon, then you'll have to travel a far distance from Florida to find them. The ones that are in the Caribbean range from 3-star to 5-star deluxe, but those crystal clear lagoons just aren't found in this part of the world. We'll show you where to find those a bit down this page.
Do you have to have a passport?
Yes, if you arrive from another country you’ll need a passport to enter Jamaica, even if you are a Jamaican citizen. You don’t need a passport to enter Puerto Rico if you are American, but unfortunately there are no overwater bungalows there. Sorry. -Roger
Can Any one provide me with construction company’s contact or number
GTM,
You’d be better off contacting a resort directly. We are simply an online guide to resorts. -Roger
I need to now dates in march 2017 to a honeymoon.
14 to 18.
do you have a fone to contact?
Rute,
You’ll want to contact Sandals about this. They have a phone number on their website. -Roger
Yes they are being constructed, I have a friend who is working on the environmental side of the project and I have seen pictures of them under construction, can’t give a finish date though.
Dianne,
It turns out they just announced that they plan to offer them as of November 15, 2016, which is great news. Thanks for the update. -Roger
are they ready yet?
Shadi,
We haven’t heard anything new, unfortunately. I was even in Montego Bay last summer and heard nothing. These Caribbean overwater bungalows never seem to get going, although the ones in the Riviera Maya area will open on September 1, 2016. -Roger
