Getting to Bora Bora

Because of its popularity, you’ll find that Bora Bora is easily considered to be one of the most beautiful tropical destinations you could visit. Part of the island’s appeal is both the remoteness and solitude that it offers, which will serve you very well, especially if you’re traveling to the region for a honeymoon trip. With this said, the downside with being so remote is that Bora Bora is not a place that can be reach quickly or, cheaply for that matter, unless you are already in French Polynesia to began with.

The largest overwater bungalow in the world BY FAR

Overwater bungalows and water villas are known for being expensive, but at least they are also known for being larger than a typical hotel room, especially when you include the private decks. There are over 110 resorts in the world offering these over-the-water rooms, and almost all of them are over 500 square feet, and usually around 1,000 square feet. This makes those about 2 to 3 times larger than a typical city hotel room.

people consider the French Polynesian island of Bora Bora to be the single most beautiful place on earth. While it’s obviously impossible to prove that, Bora Bora is so special that it even looks gorgeous from the satellite view. With that in mind, we’ve made a map showing the exact locations of all the over water bungalow resorts in Bora Bora.

When you are looking at it keep in mind that in the center of the main island you’ll find a tall volcanic mountain, which is visible from just about every resort in the area.

Meeru Island Resort: Pro detailed review with videos & photos

The Maldives has close to 90 resorts that feature water villas, and about 15 of those offer full-board and/or all-inclusive plans. For years I’ve been comparing them all as I work on this online guide to overwater bungalows, and I frequently noticed that Meeru Island was among the cheapest water villa resorts in the Maldives, and also had some of the best guest reviews.

Stranger still, Meeru Island has all guests on a full-board plan, or they can upgrade to what they call the “All-Inclusive Plus” plan for a surprisingly modest fee.

Cheap airfare

fact that almost every overwater bungalow resort in the world is both tropical and remote for most of us, means that airfares are usually going to be a bit expensive as well. There’s really no getting around the fact that these long flights to exclusive destinations are never cheap, but you can still find deals at certain times of the year, especially if you fly in the off-season for that particular destination.
