AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort – Malaysia

Golden Palm Tree water villas

Featuring a total of 392 overwater villas, AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort (known until early 2014 as the Golden Palm Tree Resort & Spa) is by far the largest of its kind in the entire world. It’s still opening sections of the property in early 2011, and evidently some kinks are being worked out as they continue to open. They are offering all-inclusive packages that are more generous than most, including 3 meals at any of their 5 restaurants, or room service, plus drinks at their 2 bars.

The location very close to the huge Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which is one of Asia’s best for affordable flights, means that this resort should become very popular for people from throughout the region. The smaller water villas are modestly priced, so it should offer very good value compared to the boutique resorts in the Maldives.

Location

The AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort is located on the Malacca Straight along the coast of Malaysia, just 10 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

What the reviews say

Reviews for the AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort are generally positive, but still somewhat mixed. The resort only opened fully in late 2011 and it seems clear that there are still some logistical things needed to be worked out. Most guests have a very good experience, but others complain about disorganization and long waits for things.

Generally the rooms and the facility get very high marks all around, and it’s the service and speed of those services that seems to be the problem, which isn’t really surprising considering the size of this place. Prices are actually lower in 2012 than they were upon opening, so it’s better value and problems are being sorted out as they go.

Getting there

The AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort is located just off the coast of Malaysia in the district of Sepang. In spite of being very close to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, it’s a 45-minute drive, and cheap taxis are easy to find. It’s nearly a 90-minute drive from the center of KL.
