Part of the luxury Taj Hotels group of India, the Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef Maldives is boutique private-island resort only 62 villas and suites, including 34 water villas. This is one of the smallest and most intimate island resorts in the Maldives, and is very popular among honeymooners and those on romantic retreats.
There are two gourmet restaurants and one bar, as well as a great number of water sports possibilities, but still this island definitely has a boutique feel and might not be the best choice for families or groups. For a 5-star resort the prices for the water villas are quite affordable, making this one of the better values in the area for those looking for a small and secluded resort.
The Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef Resort is located on Hembadhu Island, which is 32 kilometers northwest of the main airport in Malé in the Maldives.

To reach the Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef Resort you’ll need to fly to the main Malé International Airport in the Maldives. From there you’ll be met by hotel staff who will put you on a speedboat for the 60-minute ride to the small island where the resort lies, or on a sea plane for a 20-minute flight.
Reviews of the Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef Resort are generally excellent, with nearly everyone being impressed by the 5-star standards of the hotel. The rooms get high marks, especially for the water villas, as does the setting and the food. Several guests have pointed out that this is one of the smallest Maldives resort islands, with no nightlife aside from one bar, so if that’s what you are looking for then you’ve found it here.
Some guests also point out that many small things seem very expensive once you are there, although that tends to be true all over the Maldives at private-island resorts. Most honeymoon guests appear to be perfectly satisfied, so this resort seems ideal for romantic holidays in particular.
