With a total of 67 water and ocean bungalows, the Anantara Veli is more private and secluded than the Anantara Dhigu Resort located on the next island. The overwater bungalows are large and luxurious, with the Deluxe ones offering extras like a bathtub-for-two that could make a honeymoon that much more memorable.
The location is a tropical paradise, and making it even better is the fact that you can take a 2-minute boat ride to the other resort to get a wider variation of restaurants and daytime activities. This is a 5-star resort in every sense, and a perfect choice for a romantic Maldives getaway or any special occasion.
This is more of a romantic couples resort than a family resort. In fact, the resort is now an adults only island with a minimum age requirement of 18 to check into one of the rooms. It's worth stressing that these two resorts are on neighboring islands and share much of the same infrastructure, but they offer two very different experiences. The Anantara Veli Maldives resort is more secluded and more set up for romantic couples, while the Anantara Dhigu Resort across the lagoon has a Kids Club and services that are outfitted for families and children.
Some people actually get offended to hear that some guests to the Maldives prefer to stay at a resort with no children, but it's the reality so it's best to take that into account. In other words, if you are coming on a romantic holiday yourself, then this is the one to book at, but if you are bringing children you'll definitely need to book at the Anantara Dhigu Resort.
The Anantara Veli Resort & Spa is located 21 kilometers south of the main island of Malé in the Maldives.

Anantara Spa Dhigu is located in overwater suites and offers full 5-star service and many massage and treatment options, including couples options.
To reach the Anantara Veli Maldives Resort & Spa you’ll need to fly to the main Malé International Airport in the Maldives. From there you’ll be met by hotel staff who will put you on a private speedboat for the 35-minute ride to the small island where the resort lies.
Similar to its sister resort, the larger and more family-oriented Anantara Dhigu that is located on the next island, reviews for the Anantara Veli Resort are almost all very positive. Most guests are extremely pleased by the location and the overwater bungalows, and this hotel seems particularly well suited to honeymoons since it’s more private and less child-friendly than the other one. Catering to adults, this resort is seen my many as on the romantic side, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in luck.
However, there are always people who are disappointed, and it’s not too hard to find reviews from other people who didn’t feel the Anantara Veli Maldives resort lives up to its reputation or price. Still, with the overwhelming number of reviews being very positive, it feels like you’d be unlucky to experience most of the negative things that a few people bring up.
