April, 2011, the Kardashian clan (and their film/production crew) invaded the French Polynesian island of Bora Bora for a 7-day family visit. Needless to say, the whole thing is part of their “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” show, and the 3 Bora Bora episodes begin airing this coming Sunday, August 21, 2011, in the United States.

Evidently the main purpose was that Bruce and Kris Jenner were going to renew their wedding vows for their 20th Anniversary so nearly the whole family were there to help celebrate. The episodes haven't begun airing yet so we don't know exactly what happens, but if reality TV has taught us anything it's to expect hijinks and contrived situations and controversies.

But as fans of overwater bungalows, we are especially thrilled that this series of episodes is certain to raise awareness of these most romantic of tropical accommodations. Here at overwaterbungalows.net, the world's first and only guide to every overwater bungalow and water villa resort in the world, we could not be happier.

Where did the Kardashians stay on Bora Bora?

There are currently 10 different overwater bungalow resorts in Bora Bora, and the Kardashians and the production team evidently were able to strike the best deal with the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort. It’s certainly considered to be one of the top 4 overwater resorts in Bora Bora, but honestly most people who’ve tried them all actually prefer the St. Regis Resort Bora Bora, which has some suites even larger than those at the Hilton.

The Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa

Featuring 85 overwater villas in addition to 35 villas on the private island, the Hilton Bora Bora Nui is deluxe all the way. The “Hilton” name isn’t usually associated with 5-star luxury the way Four Seasons is, but this is an exception. All overwater villas are large, but the 2 Presidential Villas are enormous, which of course is where the Jenner/Kardashian family stayed.

2 Presidential Overwater villas

  • Area: 3,229 sq. ft. (300m²)
  • 2 levels
  • 2 bedrooms
  • 3 bathrooms
  • Private splash pool on the sundeck
  • 3 Flat-screen TVs

Room rate: US$4,302 per night and up per suite

The regular overwater bungalows at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui start at around US$950 per night and up, and those are all quite large and luxurious as well, at least for those who can put up with only one level in your overwater villa.

The least expensive overwater resort in Bora Bora is the Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach and Private Island, which has 44 smaller water villas that are still extremely nice compared to most hotel rooms any of us have ever stayed in.

  1. Coco Bodu Hithi is one of the very few resorts that allows 4 adults in all their villas but the lowest category.
Which makes it excellent value for a family with 2 teenagers or young adult children.
