The only overwater bungalow resort in Mexico, the Hotelito Desconocido is nothing like the resorts in the South Pacific, but is still worth a look for its unique blend of features. This is an eco-resort, which relies solely on solar power, with romantic candles lighting the facilities in the evenings.

There are bungalows over the estuary and others on the beachfront, each with its own name (rather than number) and design. Packages include all meals and non-alcoholic drinks, plus a daily massage and other activities, so it's an “all-inclusive” resort by some respects, but it's unlike any other hotel in the world in other ways. They also have wedding and honeymoon planning, with facilities for over 100 guests.

THIS RESORT CLOSED IN 2015. WE WILL UPDATE WITH NEW INFORMATION IF IT REOPENS.

WHAT THE REVIEWS SAY

Reviews for the Hotelito Desconocido are generally positive, though some guests seemed to be unprepared for the fact that the resort is solar powered and there is no air conditioning or heating. The grounds are described as gorgeous and the service gets high marks as well.

Some point out that there is no nightlife at all, and nothing close by either, so this is a place for a quiet and restful holiday of a different kind.
