Best Bora Bora & Moorea deals for December: Overwater bungalows from US$436

As long as you don't need to be in Bora Bora during Christmas week itself, the island offers good value even though the weather continues to be nearly perfect all year round. December is one of the more affordable months in Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora, and overwater bungalows in Bora Bora are actually available at (a bit) under US$500 per night, which isn't true most of the year.

In Moorea the deals are even a bit better, as is usually the case, so those with tighter budgets should probably consider the first resort on the list below for only US$436 per night. These same suites (they are all essentially suites rather than rooms) will cost about US$200 more per night during June, July, and August, so savvy travelers like to take advantage of the deals for a December visit. November marks the first month of the high season in the Maldives, so finding a bargain on a private-island water villa gets trickier. The good news is that the season tends to begin slowly, so those who can come earlier in the month can still get some great deals.

Below you'll find the three best deals we can find for November in the Maldives. Two of these include three meals per day for each of two guests per villa. Best Bora Bora & Moorea deals for October: Overwater bungalows from US$549

October marks the final month of the high season for resorts in Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti, but the last couple weeks of the month are already slower so it's easier to find better deals in the second half of the month. If you can push your trip to November you can probably get a better rate, but with the resorts listed below you can already find some good deals.

There is very little rain in the region during the month of October, and what you do tend to get are quick storms overnight or in the late afternoon. The late afternoon storms provide some of the most stunning sunsets that you'll ever see, so rain isn't really a problem to avoid in the South Pacific. [read more]

About overwater bungalows and water villas

First introduced in the South Pacific only a few decades ago, the overwater bungalow is now one of the hottest trends in the resort world. Honeymoon couples have been staying in these iconic rooms since the beginning, but now they are popular with families and adventure travelers as well.

For many people, the South Pacific island of Bora Bora is the most famous destination for the best overwater bungalows, but it's actually the Maldives, which is just southwest of India, where most of these huts-on-stilts exist. The Maldives has more than 90 resorts that feature water villas (as they are typically known there), with several new private-island resorts opening every year.

In the South Pacific you will find almost a dozen resorts on Bora Bora, another five on Moorea, and two on Tahiti that have over water villas. There are about 10 additional overwater resorts on other South Pacific islands stretching all the way to Fiji and New Caladonia.

There are also about a dozen overwater bungalow resorts in the Caribbean, mostly off the coast of Central America, with nearly all of them being diving-oriented “eco resorts.” But a few luxury overwater bungalows exist and more are being built on St. Lucia and other islands in the popular areas of the Caribbean, and this website will be the best place to look for information on all of them.
