Welcome to overwaterbungalows.net – the ultimate guide to every overwater bungalow and water villa resort in the world.
There are around 140 overwater resorts around the world, with more than 6,500 total overwater villas. About two-thirds of them are in the Maldives, but Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti have some of the world’s best and most famous of these resorts, with the Caribbean also adding these luxury rooms.
Overwater resorts are known for their classy, top notch design as well as luxury standards. Though this is true for most, there are a few that take amenities to the next level with unexpected features that add an extra touch to each villa.
Many resorts in the Maldives specialize in private bathrooms or private wooden terraces that offer stairs into the ocean or lagoon below but there are only a few that offer private, enjoyable jacuzzis designed for one or two. These jacuzzis can be found either inside the villa or right on the terrace, offering gorgeous views of the ocean and sky from the luxury of a relaxing dip. Below you’ll find a list of the 9 best resorts for a jacuzzi experience, including some with surprisingly affordable nightly rates. All the resorts below offer dining options, water activities, spacious rooms and great reviews.
Welcome to the single cheapest month of the year in the Maldives, as June somehow gets the fewest visitors even though the weather is basically the same. While US$450 per night might sound like a lot to most of us, the deals below include a private Jacuzzi in your villa, and all meals for two people. It’s easy to spend US$100 per person per day just on breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so the water villa itself doesn’t seem quite so expensive.
Two of the three offers we pointed out in the best Maldives deals in May are also available in June, and the third one is even cheaper this month so we included it again. You can find rates as low as about US$320 per night at some resorts, but the best deals are those below at the larger high-rated resorts that offer aggressive discounts this time of year. [read more]
This is the most enjoyable time of year to be looking for Maldives resort discounts because the low season is approaching when every hotel has the lowest prices of the year. This week’s deal is yet another stunner. Meeru Island is offering its two different types of water villas at rates that are literally about half what you’d pay in high season.
Those on lower budgets should enjoy the normal Water Villas at the Meeru Island Resort, which are just at the water’s edge and feature a 2-person Jacuzzi in a private area on the large terrace. But perhaps a better deal is their Jacuzzi Water Villas, which are out over the lagoon and are almost 50% larger. The promotional rates now are US$361 and US$447 per night, and that includes 3 meals a day for two people staying in each villa. [read more]
There’s no getting around it, the high season in the Maldives is almost here, so finding any attention-getting bargains is impossible. From December through March these private-island resorts can fill their villas and suites at the highest prices of the year, and if you hesitate there is somebody standing behind you ready to take the room. But all is not lost because there are a few resorts that offer excellent value in the high season.
Meeru Island Resort & Spa is among the largest resorts in the Maldives, and with 106 water villas it has the second most in the world. This size allows them to offer Jacuzzi water villas for US$560 per night with full board in high season. At most other resorts you’ll need to spend more than that with no meals or Jacuzzi included, so this is a better deal that you might first think. [read more]
I just spent a big part of my day looking for appealing promotional rates for Maldives water villa resorts and it’s becoming a real challenge. Now that summer is over for most of us, people start thinking about those winter holidays to the tropics, so the resorts tend to raise rates while still filling up. However, there are a few good deals still out there, including this one we feature this week.
The Meeru Island Resort & Spa is one of the Maldives’ larger and more dependable private-island resorts, and it’s offering its Jacuzzi water villas for only US$536 per night for two people including three meals per day. You can save a bit by booking a water villa without a Jacuzzi, or for a bit more you can go with the all-inclusive plan with alcohol. [read more]
First introduced in the South Pacific only a few decades ago, the overwater bungalow is now one of the hottest trends in the resort world. Honeymoon couples have been staying in these iconic rooms since the beginning, but now they are popular with families and adventure travelers as well.
For many people, the South Pacific island of Bora Bora is the most famous destination for the best overwater bungalows, but it’s actually the Maldives, which is just southwest of India, where most of these huts-on-stilts exist. The Maldives has more than 80 resorts that feature water villas (as they are typically known there), with several new private-island resorts opening every year.
In the South Pacific you will find almost a dozen resorts on Bora Bora, another five on Moorea, and two on Tahiti that have over water villas. There are about 10 additional overwater resorts on other South Pacific islands stretching all the way to Fiji and New Caladonia.
There are also about a dozen overwater bungalow resorts in the Caribbean, mostly off the coast of Central America, with nearly all of them being diving-oriented “eco resorts.” But a few luxury overwater bungalows exist and more are being built on St. Lucia and other islands in the popular areas of the Caribbean, and this website will be the best place to look for information on all of them.
