Overwater bungalows in Vanuatu
While the most famous overwater bungalows in the South Pacific are those in French Polynesia, there are others farther to the west that are worth consideration. Vanuatu is a group of islands located north of New Zealand and northeast of Australia, making it a popular holiday location for people from those countries.
Though it's not part of French Polynesia, this is another country the French claimed in the late 19th Century, but the British did as well so both French and English are commonly spoken, especially at resorts.
The two hotels with overwater bungalows here in Vanuatu are both large and family-oriented, with only a small number of overwater rooms. Both are located just outside the capital city of Port Vila on the main island, and are next door to each other on Erakor Lagoon.
Honeymoon-style overwater bungalows in the South Pacific?
While the two resorts in Vanuatu are somewhat popular for romantic vacations, neither features the bungalows on stilts over a clear blue lagoon like you find elsewhere. In case that's what you are looking for you should check out the Bora Bora over water bungalow resorts, the Moorea overwater bungalow resorts, and the overwater bungalow resorts elsewhere in the South Pacific. Or, if you are interested in going west instead you'll find the world's greatest selection among the overwater bungalows of the Maldives.

Formerly known as the Le Meridian Hotel and Palms Casino, the Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu is a great choice for both families and couples alike, offering a little something for everyone, including your little ones.
This is a large resort with a long list of available activities, nearly all of which are included free in the price. It's also only a short ride to the main town of Port Vila so guests have many more options than just the single restaurant at the resort.

Located next door to the Holiday Inn Resort, the Warwick Le Lagon Resort also has a pleasant location on Erakor Lagoon. There are only 4 overwater bungalows here, and those are actually perched just off the shore of a small peninsula jutting out into the lagoon, so they aren't the traditional style found in Bora Bora or Moorea.
With 142 total rooms, this is another large resort that caters to families and groups, and might not be ideal for honeymoon couples. There are all-inclusive meal plans available and prices are quite reasonable so this could be an ideal choice for those seeking an active holiday in the South Pacific with overwater flare.
