If you're looking for a tropical escape, you'll find overwater resorts all around the Maldives, allowing for you to pick exactly the vacation you've dreamed of. Though the resorts are different from each other, you'll find that each caters with dining options, snorkeling opportunities and lots of little extras found in each room and around the resort itself. Some of these resorts also include a spa and various land games and activities, such as the game of tennis.

For those of you seeking an island vacation that won't break the bank, there are plenty of overwater resorts to choose from. One of these such resorts is the CoCo Bodu Hithi Resort. Here you'll find overwater villas with a private pool starting at only US$578 per night for two people.

The Details

Available only through Agoda, this nightly rate is very impressive as it is well below the usual low season rate. Because of this, and the fact that it is only available during the month of November, you're sure to run into a good amount of other potential visitors eyeing the overwater rooms located at this resort. This means you'll want to book your room as soon as you can, alongside your flights. Remember, in addition to your international flight, you'll also find yourself traveling on a sea-plane to the resort from Male Airport.

Overwater rooms featuring a private pool and more

Because the resort and private island are on the small side, you'll only find 100 rooms, about half of which are found situated over the water. These water villas come in 2 different categories, one of which is slightly bigger than the other. Though they do differ in size, the amenities and features are the same.

These amenities include a kingsize bed, an entertainment center, bathrooms with both an indoor and outdoor shower in addition to a bathtub, a living area, sundecks, a coffee machine and a personal bar to enjoy. You'll also love the private pool that overlooks the ocean beyond. If you're hoping for easy access into the ocean, you'll find steps that lead directly into the lagoon.

Amenities include a dive center, babysitting and more

Though it may be hard to leave your room, once you do you'll find lots of great amenities found throughout the rest of the resort. First you'll come across a rather nice selection of restaurants and bars. If you're looking for a variety of plates to enjoy, you'll find seafood, la carte and Asian. If you love the ocean and plan on spending as much time in it as possible, you'll find lots of great water activities to choose from.

These include use of the on-site dive center, snorkeling, catamaran sailing, canoeing, water skiing and windsurfing. On land you'll find a tennis court, a volleyball court and a badminton court. When you're in the mood for a little bit of quite time, you'll want to head over to the resort's spa. Here you'll find treatments from Indonesia, India and Thailand.

It may be unrealistic but I am trying to find 5 nights during 22nd-29th Dec for a family of 5. We have 3 teens 18, 15 and 13 and will need two rooms. Because only 5 nights max think we need a resort by speedboat as we will be flying in from Singapore to Male and arriving late at night and just want to get to the resort without staying the night in a hotel. Not a huge budget Max SGD1500 per night…does not have to be 5* but be good if decent house reef as 3 of us are PADI Open Water qualified. Any suggestions gratefully received! Many thanks

      Sacha,

As you suspected, this might not be possible. The main challenge is that most resorts only allow 3 guests per water villa in the Maldives. A few Maldives resorts allow 4 guests per room, but I’m not aware of any that allow 5 in the normal water villas. Some resorts have 2-bedroom water villas and those would accommodate you, but the problem there is those normally start at around US$2,000 per night and during that week it would be more like US$3,000 per night. Your cheapest solution would be two water villas at one of the more affordable resorts. During that week I’m not sure you can afford two water villas on your budget, so you might have to put the teens in an island villa in order to make it.

That might sound odd in most destinations, but each Maldives resort is on its own private island so they are essentially 100% safe. Best of luck on this. -Roger
