Huge Maldives 5-star overwater villa for US$676 per night
Lately we've been featuring some of the least expensive water villa resorts with excellent summer special rates, but today we are highlighting a breathtaking deal at one of the finest Maldives resorts. You may be familiar with the Soneva Gili by Six Senses Resort because it has by far the largest overwater villa in the world at 1400 square meters (15,000 square feet), but it also has 44 more water villas that are also bigger than your house.
If you like going on holiday to where the rich and famous go in the Maldives, this is probably your best bet, but it's all so spread out that you can choose to not see anyone else if you like. The largest 8 water villas are accessible only by boat, though most guests do come ashore for dinners and some entertainment.
A Soneva Gili Villa Suite for US$676 per night (regular rate US$1,589 per night) for two people on selected dates in the coming months at the Soneva Gili by Six Senses Resort in the Maldives.
This deal is only available through our booking partner, Agoda, and includes a 35% discount. The normal discounted rate is US$1,040 for these rooms, but during certain weeks this summer the deeper discount is available. Check the Agoda page for the resort for your own dates.
A different kind of 5-star luxury resort
The Soneva Gili is definitely a 5-star resort with an excellent reputation, but it's important to mention that it has more of a Robinson Crusoe feel than a Four Seasons feel. Each of the water villas is huge, with this special deal for the smallest, which is still 2,260 sq ft (210 m²). However, only a few sections (bedroom and living room) are air conditioned while the rest is open to the pleasant tropical breezes.
The resort also has a “no shoes, no news” policy, so it's meant as a retreat from your busy life rather than a different place to work. They do provide free wi-fi in the rooms, but many choose not to use it, and many guests proudly go barefoot for literally days at a time. That's the vibe at this place, and nearly everyone who experiences swears they'll go back.
Check out the video tour at the bottom of our main Soneva Gili page and you'll see what we mean.
No shortage of activities for a boutique resort
Even with only 45 water villas and no island rooms, you'll have a long list of daytime activities at your disposal. Except at the finest resorts, you usually have to go to a place with hundreds of rooms or get by with a limited activity menu, but here you get excellent diving, snorkeling, fishing, windsurfing, tennis, a gym, volleyball and on and on and on.
There is also two different restaurants plus in-villa dining, and even a wine cellar and underground chocolate cave. Of course they have one of the best spas in the Maldives, and many treatments available in the villas themselves.
The location close to (but not too close to) the main Male Airport means you can get there quickly after landing by speedboat, even if you come at an odd hour. This is truly a magical resort, and certainly the best resort close to the Maldives airport.
