Enormous 5-star Maldives water villas at US$972 per night in high season
As high season in the Maldives is approaching it's getting more difficult finding interesting water villa deals to discuss, but we did come across a promotion at one of the most amazing resorts in the world this week. Perhaps partly due to the fact that it recently changed its name and its management, the Gili Lankanfushi Maldives Resort (formerly the Soneva Gili by Six Senses) is offering its Villa Suites at 20% off in the high season, subject to availability, of course.
As you can see in the title, this means the rooms are US$972 per night, which might sound like a lot (it is a lot), but these rooms are larger than most houses, and as close to paradise as we are likely to find. The resort has only 45 water villas and no rooms on the island itself, so this is an exclusive boutique property that is known for being popular with celebrities because of the privacy available.
An overwater Villa Suite for US$972 per night for two people at the Gili Lankanfushi Maldives Resort during high season, based on availability.
This rate comes with a 20% discount and is only available through our booking partner, Agoda. There is no minimum stay required to get the rate and you can check your own dates on the Agoda page for the Gili Lankanfushi.
A very different luxury resort
When spending this much money per night you would probably expect a solid gold piano and diamond door handles, but at the Gili Lankanfushi it's all about casual comfort and privacy. There's a “no news, no shoes” policy so this is a hotel where guests escape the dress-up world. Each Villa Suite is over 200 square meters, but more than half of that is in the open air, where the cool sea breezes keep you comfortable from the tropical warmth.
The bedroom area is also huge and it's air conditioned, but this resort is designed to take advantage of its perfect climate by allowing guests to relax on private decks in or out of the sun. This private-island resort is known for having the world's largest water villa, which is 1400 square meters, and one of 8 water villas that are only accessible by boat. The Villa Suites are actually their smallest room category, even though they are among the largest in the Maldives itself.
Only 45 villas, but endless choices
It's not uncommon for Maldives resorts to have over 100 rooms and only one buffet restaurant, but the Gili Lankanfushi has only 45 villas (many with their own kitchens) but it has 2 restaurants, a bar, a chocolate cave, and a wine cellar, as well as “private dining” options aplenty. In other words, if you enjoy serenity and privacy, this is your place.
The island has no villas, but it does have a diving school, a water sports center, a jogging path, tennis courts, speedboats, and much more. If you come to the Maldives to sunbathe or just kick back in the tropical air or snorkel in the turquoise lagoon below your water villa, this place is perfect, but if you want to keep busy instead they've got you covered as well.
