Astonishing deals on Maldives water villas this summer
Each week we comb all the best deals on water villas and overwater bungalows around the world to present the most interesting one for our readers. This week we came upon a treasure trove of amazing discounts on Maldives water bungalows for the summer months.
Even though the Maldives weather is nearly the same all year round, with just a few more quick rain storms during the summer than the winter, the months of June through August are the off season for the resorts with the lowest prices of the year.
What’s interesting is that just in the past week or so many of the better resorts have started discounting their previous off-season rates down to almost unheard-of levels. Below is a list of some of the best Maldives resorts that have cut their best rates by 15% to 30%. Obviously it’s all based on availability and some resorts will show higher prices for some weeks, but if you are flexible it seems certain that you can find an amazing deal soon for the summer months.
Best Maldives water-villa deals for June through August
- Previous lowest price: US$461
- New lowest price: US$401
This resort, with only 30 water villas and 6 island villas, is one of the smallest in the Maldives, and it’s also one of the highest rated by guest reviews.
It’s got excellent diving and snorkeling available, as well as a luxury spa. The new sale rates put it almost into the ‘budget’ category, which is amazing for one of the highest rated resorts of all.
- Previous lowest price: US$669
- New lowest price: US$578
With enormous water villas and the highest-rated of all the all-inclusive water villa resorts, the Lily Beach is already very popular with the 5-star honeymoon crowd for its value.
With nearly 120 rooms (including 56 water villas) the rates can get very low during the slower summer months. The all-inclusive plan includes alcohol too, so it’s a better value than it might otherwise appear.
- Previous lowest price: US$972
- New lowest price: US$749
The Soneva Gili by Six Senses Resort is partly known for having by far the largest water villa in the world (1400 square meters), and it’s also one of the top choices for the rich and famous when they visit the Maldives due to the privacy of 8 water villas that are only accessible by boat.
Even the smallest water villas here are enormous though, and now they are within the reach of more visitors during the summer months. This is a “No news, no shoes” resort that is very casual while still being exclusive, so it’s perfect for some but not everyone.
- Previous lowest price: US$1,621
- New lowest price: US$928
The 32 water villas at the One&Only Reethi Rah Resort are pure luxury, and they might be bigger than your house as well. This is among the largest of the 5-star-plus islands with quite an interesting and unusual set up.
The normal rates for the water villas make it one of the few most expensive resorts in Asia, but this summer they are offering some online deals that cut those prices in half. It’s an opportunity to experience 6-star luxury at a 5-star price.
- Previous lowest price: US$940
- New lowest price: US$806
Another Maldives resort where all of the 38 water villas are almost the size of a suburban home in Texas, the Anantara Dhigu Resort is on a small island just across the lagoon from the Anantara Veli Resort, so guests stay in the more exclusive part but also have access to the rest.
The summer rates should be appealing to those who are looking for a luxurious resort and access to 8 different restaurants plus many other features you won’t find elsewhere.
- Previous lowest price: US$655
- New lowest price: US$491
The Centara Grand Island Resort is a solid 4-star all-inclusive private island hotel with 62 water villas and 42 island villas and suites. Each water villa is large and comes complete with a Jacuzzi Spa and heavenly rain shower.
The low summer prices make this a very good choice for the all-inclusive set, and for a small additional fee you can get upgraded to the Island Club level with more dining and drinking choices plus some extra activities.
- Previous lowest price: US$731
- New lowest price: US$540
With 56 water villas, each with its own private pool, the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu is one of the more exclusive Maldives properties. The water villas are enormous and there’s a long list of activities available.
The Coco Palm chain isn’t known for discounting so it’s a welcome change to see them with rates knocked down this far during the slower months.
- Previous lowest price: US$814
- New lowest price: US$580
Similar to the resort just above, the Coco Palm Bodu Hithi is small and exclusive with 14 water villas each with a private pool. This is another “no news, no shoes” resort where comfort is emphasized over formality.
The summer rates on offer put this into the mid-range category, which is a bit surprising for this luxury chain that isn’t known for competing on price.
- Previous lowest price: US$342
- New lowest price: US$208
Normally a specialist in all-inclusive rate plans, the Angaga Island Resort is flexible and does also offer half-board plans at big discounts when things are slow. There are 20 water villas and 50 island rooms that are even cheaper.
So this rate of US$208 per night per room (per couple) is for a water villa on the half-board plan, which includes breakfast and dinner. This makes it by far the cheapest Maldives water villa even without the dinner thrown in. It’s not one of the highest-rated resorts (obviously) but it’s still quite nice and at a rate that is unbeatable.
