5-star Maldives water villa with half-board for US$578 per night per couple
Holidays in the Maldives are now in full swing, as the high season carries on through next April. Finding stand-out deals is a challenge during this period, but here's one worth looking at at a 5-star resort that gets consistently solid reviews.
In the coming months you can book a water villa at the Medhufushi Island Resort for US$578 per night for two people, and that includes breakfast and dinner daily. This would compare to at least US$800 per night at similar private-island resorts, so it's easily one of the best bargains available during the high season.
A water villa for two at the Medhufushi Island Resort for US$578 (plus service and tax) per night, including half board. The island rooms start at US$380 per night, so you can spend part of your holiday in one of those to cut the cost down a bit.
This promotion is only available on Agoda.com and is only valid until certain booking levels are reached for each date. Guests must be at least 12 years old to stay in the water villas, and there is no minimum number of days required to qualify for this rate. Check your own dates on the Agoda page for the Medhufushi to see if the rates are available.
Twice the size of a normal hotel room
In much of the world this would be called an overwater bungalow, but in the Maldives they are generally called water villas. You might assume that this just means that it's a hotel room over the water, but most of them including the ones at the Medhufushi Resort are more like a hotel suite than a room. Each is 60 square meters and includes a large private deck with comfortable furniture.
Not only do you have a lot of living space, and the outdoor part is at least as important as the indoor part, but you also get luxury amenities such as a separate bathtub and shower in an oversized bathroom. You also get bathrobes for each guest along with luxury toiletries and such, so it's a first class experience all the way around.
Two restaurants, a bar, and a luxury spa
The Medhufushi Island Resort has 46 water villas and 66 villas on the island, so it's much smaller than most resort hotels. This gives it a personal feel where the staff get to know most of the guests, but the resort itself is loaded with features. There are two main restaurants and a separate bar, unlike a few other resorts where it's all one huge buffet restaurant.
Of course there's also a deluxe spa here, featuring a wide range of massages and other wellness treatments. When you get a room rate such as this that is well below what you'd expect, it's easier to treat yourselves to some massages to really make it the trip of a lifetime at a reasonable price.
