Cocoa Island Resort – Maldives

Cocoa Island aerial

Part of the Asian luxury hotel chain COMO, the Cocoa Island Resort in the Maldives is wonderfully set on a small private island, featuring 33 overwater villas that are each shaped like a Maldivian fishing boat. You’ll find excellent diving and snorkeling in the area, plus great food and a deluxe spa, but you won’t have an enormous list of activities, so this hotel is ideal for honeymoon couples plus anyone whose main goal is to relax in paradise.

The overwater villas and suites at the hotel are all quite large, including two 2-bedroom villas that are enormous. The rack rates for the rooms puts this well into the 5-star luxury category, but online discounts and packages are almost always available that will cut the price substantially. This makes the Cocoa Island Resort one of the better value private-island resorts in the Maldives.

The Cocoa Island Resort is located on a small private island known as Makunufushi, which is about 40 kilometers south of the main island of Malé in the Maldives.

What the reviews say

Easily one of the best-reviewed resorts in the Maldives, the Cocoa Island Resort gets very high marks all around, and you’ll have to look for a long time to find even one negative comment. People are impressed by everything from the greeting to the staff to the service to the rooms and to the food.

It is, however, important for potential guests to realize that this hotel is small, and on quite a small private island, without the endless list of activities that some other hotels offer. Also, the overwater villas (which are almost all the rooms) are not overly ornate, so this is a place to relax and be peaceful rather than to have toys and games at your constant disposal. All in all, the reviews suggest this resort to be top-notch and definitely one to consider for your next vacation.

Getting there

To reach the Cocoa Island Resort you’ll need to fly to the main Malé International Airport in the Maldives. From there you’ll be met by hotel staff who will put you on their speedboat for the 40-minute ride to the small island where the resort lies.
